Njalikwa Chongwe has almost a quarter of a century worth of experience working as a studio potter. He specializes in pottery with strong forms, striking colour combinations layered with crackled and textured glazes that are both stoneware and raku fired. His studio Zinongo, located in South Fremantle Western Australia, overlooks the Indian Ocean with views to Rottnest Island.
The Indian Ocean has been a strong influence in his work which he combines with another of his enduring themes, his African heritage, manifesting in intricate African patterning. To create this unique combination, Njalikwa uses the ancient art of Japanese Raku firing and Chinese stoneware celadon glazes, making his pieces a convergence of many cultures, ''a melting pot '' of ceramics.
